Other than the fact that it comes in many vibrant colors (blue, red, and black), the sleek design can easily fit in the palms of your hand. Measuring 4.22 x 2.95 x 0.44 inches with a weight of 4.23 ounces, you can easily carry it-making it a perfect portable external hard drive for digital nomads.

Even though the outer body of the drive is made of plastic, it still feels quite sturdy. With no sharp and pointy edges, that can damage your clothes or bags, giving it a classy finish look.

Moreover, a white indicator light turns on every time the device is used. The aesthetics of the WD My passport HDD drive make it stand out from the crowd, making it one of the most well-designed and stylish drives in the market.

Hard Drives are your storage buddy, and what’s worse, if it fails! To store your data safely, you should look for a reliable drive. A critical factor when purchasing an HDD is to keep the reliability factor in mind.

Apart from essential features like the design of drive, temperature, backup security, many other factors also determine the reliability of a drive, like operating time, Mean Time To Failure (MTTF), and annualized failure rate (AFR).

Having said this, let’s look at the reliability of WD My passport. This drive is super reliable in its design- a solid and compact body and quite resistant to all your everyday falls.

From security, WD My passport HDD comes with built-in AES 256-bit hardware encryption, ensuring that all your data is highly secured. Yay! With WD, all your data backup issues are sorted!

Note: My passport HDD is not water and dust-resistant. Therefore, it is advisable to protect it from all external factors that could damage its interior or exterior features-

On average many hard drives easily last for 3 to 4 years. Though, faster innovation has led to an increase in the life span of hard drives, with many new manufactures providing comprehensive warranties up to 5 years or more.

WD My passport offers a tension-free warranty of up to 3 years. In short, you can easily depend on this drive for storing all your data on the go. I am sure it won’t disappoint you!

Though never overlook the fact that the warranty depends on the proper usage and deployment of the drive. To have a healthy and long-lasting drive, you must handle it with proper usage and care.

Data Transfer Speed

Speed is a crucial and foremost feature to look for when shopping for HDD. The speed of a storage hard disk is measured in rotation per minute or RPM. The faster the drive’s disk spins, the more quickly your software and files will load.

WD My passport HDD comes with USB 3.2 Gen 1, which provides 10GB/s of data transfer speed, 10x faster than the old version of USB 2.0. But it does not mean this speed will be equal on all devices. To achieve the same performance, connect this drive with a Thunderbolt 3 port or USB-C.

Additionally, my passport is compatible with both the USB version like USB 2.0 and USB 3.0. However, it is recommended to use USB 3.2 on your Mac devices for sky-rocketing performance and the fastest speed.

WD My passport is compatible with all your Mac devices – great news for all Mac users! Additionally, My Passport is also compatible with Windows 7 and Windows 10. However, compatibility varies according to users’ hardware configuration and OS.

Pro tip: As experts advised, thoroughly go through the user manual available online. Moreover, you should always check your device hardware for compatibility before making any purchase.

The cost per gigabyte of a 2TB model is 4 cents making it quite competitive in the real world. This drive offers excellent value for money even though there is only a slight difference in price between 2TB and 4TB versions.

With 2TB available at $69.99, you can get the double storage capacity at only $109.87. However, the prices of hard drives constantly change. So, it is always essential to check for current prices at online shopping stores like Amazon before making any purchase.

With all above mentioned essential features and storage capacity, it still offers a reasonable level of quality performance. In our testing, it’s reading and writing Seq. Speeds were 123 MB/s and 120 MB/s, respectively.

Although this speed is not very impressive, it is still more significant than its top rivals like Seagate Portable HDD and LaCie Rugged portable HDD. So, overall, this is not a great performer in reading and writing speed.

Final verdict

A combination of out-of-box features like an excellent warranty, the competitive market price makes it a strong contender for all your storage needs. My passport works in harmony with all your Mac devices and Apple time machines making it entirely compatible with various devices.
